At the regional level, the ACCC project has reinforced the capacity of project partners in the fight against coastal erosion and management / coastal planning through specialized training sessions and technical publications. A synthetic description of the results obtained are available in the ACCC brochure (FR EN PT).

The selected project site, Ribeira de Lago, is located in the Islands of Maio, 8 km away from the Porto Ingles. This site is particularly exposed to coastal erosion while important from a biodiversity aspect (turtles and birds). A synthetic description of the results obtained are available in the ACCC brochure (FR EN PT).

The site chosen for the pilot project is located in the hotspot that was ranked first during the preparatory phase, in the Tanji Bird Reserve in the Southern portion of the River Gambia estuary. The site has rich biological diversity (endangered species are registered) as well as important coastal erosion and population at risk. A synthetic description of the results obtained are available in the ACCC brochure (FR EN PT).

The site chosen for the implementation of demonstration measures to strengthen the capacity of ecosystems to climate change adaptation is Varela, located 300 m from the village of Varela Beach in the area of Sao Domingo to ensure profitability, the activities will be conducted in the areas identified as vulnerable to climate change and variability coastal erosion arising and the potential for generation of global environmental benefits is high (in the field focal biodiversity).  A synthetic description of the results obtained are available in the ACCC brochure (FR EN PT).

In Mauritania, the project site is located at the level of the coastal dune cordon of Nouakchott between the Wharf and the market of fish on about 50 ha. It is rehabilitating the dune Ridge, to restore its biodiversity and to contribute to the protection of the city of Nouakchott through plugging breaches, mechanical stabilization and afforestation with species local (tamarix senegalensis, atriplex halumus, nitraria retusa). A synthetic description of the results obtained are available in the ACCC brochure (FR EN PT).

The project site selected for Senegal is Palmarin Facao. This site is located in the ‘Biodiversity Conservation Area of the Saloum Delta’ (RBDS) which was also classified ‘Réserve de Biosphère’ in 1981 and « zone humide d’importance internationale » since 1984 according to Ramsar Convention criteria: 16 different bird species can be found for example. A synthetic description of the results obtained are available in the in ACCC brochure (FR EN PT).
